6 Mil Waterproof LVP

This is the lowest price per square foot on waterproof vinyl plank in the warehouse, and it is worth being straightforward about what that buys you and what it does not.

The 6 mil wear layer is the thin clear film on top that takes the abuse. Six mil is genuinely thin. It is a light residential specification, suited to bedrooms, closets, guest rooms, a spare room, or any space that sees shoes off and not much traffic. It is also what people reach for when the alternative is leaving worn carpet down for another two years because the budget is not there.

Where it is the wrong buy: entryways, kitchens, hallways, any house with dogs, and every rental property. Sand tracked in from a Florida driveway is abrasive, and a 6 mil layer gives up noticeably sooner than a 12 or 20 will. If the floor is going to be walked on daily, spend the extra twenty cents a foot and take the 12 mil instead. We would rather tell you that now than sell you this twice.

What you do still get is the part that matters most in Florida: a rigid waterproof core with no wood in it. It will not swell, warp or delaminate when it gets wet, which is more than can be said for a laminate at a similar price. At 4.2 mm it is thinner than the rest of our range, so the subfloor underneath needs to be reasonably flat, a thin plank bridges less.

An attached pad means no separate underlayment to buy in most installations, and it clicks together without glue or nails.
